BACOLOD City – Police are exploring other possible angles behind the death of a 65-year-old farm overseer at Hacienda Angelina 2, Barangay 12, Victorias City, Negros Occidental last Sunday.
Police withheld the name of the victim, a resident of Barangay 8.
Major Joy Ellaga, deputy chief of Victorias City Police Station, said the victim was riding a tricycle on her way home from the city proper when two unidentified persons flagged down the tricycle.
The victim was with five other passengers and the tricycle driver when she disembarked from the tricycle on orders of the two perpetrators.
Ellaga said the tricycle driver and the passengers were then told to turn their backs from the victim, who was standing from a distance with the perpetrators.
After a while, a gunshot was heard, prompting the other passengers and the tricycle driver to run and hide.
Ellaga said the perpetrators allegedly took the victim’s bag and shot her in the head at close range before fleeing on board a motorcycle.
The victim died on the spot, according to Ellaga.
Police recovered from the scene a fired .45-caliber bullet.
Ellaga said that it’s possible that the perpetrators may have monitored the victim’s activity.
But they could not ascertain if there was cash inside the victim’s stolen bag since she already distributed the salaries of the farm workers a day prior to the incident, Ellaga said.
Aside from the angle of robbery, Ellaga said they are also probing if the incident could be linked to work-related or something personal.
“Wala ta kabalo basi may nakontra man siya, pero so far okay man record ka victim,” Ellaga said.
Meanwhile, three others were also killed in separate shooting and hacking incidents in the province.
A 61-year-old man was found lifeless with a gunshot wound in his ear at Purok Mahogany, Barangay Bagong Silang, Don Salvador Benedicto town last Friday.
The following day, a 37-year-old man also died after he was shot by three unidentified persons, who went to his house looking for him at Sitio Gabi-Gabi, Barangay Tambad, Cauayan town.
Also hacked to death was a 44-year-old man after he reportedly entered a property and smashed the window of the 54-year-old suspect’s house while under the influence of liquor at Purok Crisjun, Barangay Rafaela Barrera, Sagay City last Saturday.
