Aspiring triathletes and multisport enthusiasts will take center stage at the FAB (Freeport Area of Bataan) Sunrise Sprint (S2) on Sunday, Nov. 16, in Mariveles.
The S2 serves as a sub-category of the inaugural 5150 FAB Triathlon, offering a shorter yet high-energy race experience designed for beginners and returning competitors.
The race features a 750-meter open-water swim, a 20-kilometer bike ride, and a 5-kilometer run, delivering the essence of triathlon in a compact format.
It is ideal for new athletes, comeback racers, or veterans seeking to sharpen their edge in a less demanding course.
Set on an Olympic-style layout, the S2 aims to replicate the camaraderie and intensity of longer-distance events.
Organizers expect participation from various age groups and categories.
Standout entries include Eunice Caluya and Kurt Julian in the 15–19 division, Adrian Bangkiling in the 20–24 class, and 25–29 competitors Ryan delos Reyes, Patrick Tamboong, Raejohn Legaspi, and Nathalia Pili.
“Events like the S2 are essential to developing the next generation of Filipino triathletes,” said Princess Galura, president and managing director of Sunrise Events Inc., which is organizing the race.
“By giving beginners and young athletes a positive, well-supported race environment, we hope to inspire more people to stay active and eventually take on longer distances.”
Saturday’s FABulous Run at 5 p.m. will serve as the weekend’s kickoff event, taking runners on a single-loop, counter-clockwise route around Luzon Avenue in the Freeport zone.
Athlete Check-in, Kit Claim, and the Athlete Expo will be held at the AFAB Administration Building, while the official race briefing is scheduled at 2 p.m. Saturday at the FAB Auditorium.
“Holding the Sunrise Sprint in Bataan is intentional,” Galura said.
“The province has embraced endurance sports and continues to invest in venues, safety, and community support that make it an ideal home for athletes starting their journey. Every start line begins with a small step, and for many, that step begins here.”
The event is more than just a race—it is designed to promote physical literacy, confidence, and community involvement.
It invites participants from all backgrounds, from first-time racers and recreational runners to elite athletes, to share the same start line and competitive spirit.
Relay events will also add excitement, with all-male, all-female, and mixed teams competing.
Notable teams include JNM Tri-Team, TRPH Saja Boys, Sibakeras, TSL Triathlon I, Olongapo Jr Trackers Multisports, Team YAB, TriGunns, TRPH Relay Team 1, DayOne/Infinite Multisport, Project 2, BYBS Tri, Praetoria Tri, and PNYTRIBE.
