One of the most decorated racing drivers in the history of Formula One just tested positive for COVID-19.
British F1 champion Lewis Hamilton will not be suiting up for the Sakhir Grand Prix this weekend, the news was confirmed by his Mercedes team.
His management bared that he was tested three times and all had negative results but a day after when he woke up, Hamilton started to show mild symptoms of the virus.
As of the moment, the Mercedes team star racer is in isolation and is strictly following Bahrain safety and health protocols.
“He woke up Monday morning with mild symptoms and was informed at the same time that a contact prior to arrival in Bahrain had subsequently tested positive. Lewis, therefore, took a further test and returned a positive result. This has since been confirmed by a retest,” said his team.
If Lewis manages to yield a series of negative results in the next few weeks and gets the approval of their medical team for clearance, he will go back and finish his tournament spree.
“Apart from mild symptoms, he is otherwise fit and well, and the entire team sends him its very best wishes for a swift recovery,” the Mercedes team added.
