Ken Tuffin quickly quieted questions whether he will go back to the Philippines and join the PBA draft after announcing his new deal in the New Zealand National Basketball League (NZ NBL).
The former team captain of the Far Eastern University (FEU) announced that he will be staying in New Zealand after signing with the Wellington Saints, the 2019 NZ NBL champions.
After a stellar season with the Taranaki Mountainairs as a rookie, the kings of the NZ NBL noticed the great potential Tuffin had and did not hesitate to offer him a contract.
Tuffin, a graduate of St. Patrick’s College in Wellington, is also delighted to go home to his community, one of the reasons why he chose to be with the team.
“The growth I can achieve with the club and under Zico is an awesome opportunity and I look forward to progressing my career further and getting out to contribute to my local community,” said Tuffin.
Drafted by Taranaki 44th overall, the 6-foot-4 skipper made an impression as a rookie and averaged an impressive 9.2 points on 42.4% shooting and 4.7 boards per game.
“He showed in 2020 at the Showdown that he shoots the ball efficiently, offers size and athleticism as a guard which aids him in finishing on the interior and when rebounding and that he is a willing versatile defender. We’re excited for Kenneth to add these attributes and more to our mix as we continue to build our roster,” said Wellington head coach Zico Coronel.
