Eumir Marcial KOs American foe to remain unbeaten
By Leobert Julian A. de la Peña

Eumir Marcial ended a 10-month professional boxing layoff with an impressive third-round knockout win over American Omar Ulises Huerta at Pechanga Arena in San Diego, California, on Sept. 20, 2026.
Seeking to protect his six-year undefeated run, Marcial displayed brute punching power to neutralize Huerta’s hounding pressure, officially ending the bout at the 1:44 mark of the third round with a vicious right-hook counter.
Signs of ring rust never bothered the Filipino pug despite being away from the pro scene for almost a year, as he immediately dictated the tempo by parrying Huerta’s volume jabs with a 1-2 straight-hook counter pattern.
As soon as Huerta felt Marcial’s power midway through the opening round, the challenger decided to backpedal to avoid further damage, allowing the unbeaten Filipino to regain momentum and throw punches from different angles at will.
Marcial seized full control of the bout’s pace in the second round as he targeted Huerta’s midsection with massive body shots that eventually slowed down the American.
With only a minute remaining in the second round, Marcial brought the crowd to its feet after landing a clean three-punch combination, helping him take a comfortable 2-0 lead on the judges’ scorecards.
Huerta had his best moments in the opening 30 seconds of the third round after rocking Marcial with a stiff left, followed by a double right jab in an attempt to get back on track.
However, one mistake caused Huerta’s come-from-behind hopes to fade after he overextended with a sneaky 1-2 combination.
The split second Huerta overstepped after throwing the left straight, Marcial perfectly timed the sharp right counter that officially ended the fight.
Huerta failed to beat the referee’s 10-count, improving Marcial’s unbeaten record to eight wins, including five knockouts.
On the other hand, Huerta suffered his second consecutive loss in five months, dropping to 15 wins and two losses, with 13 knockouts.
