THE hot weather condition and the congested clustered precincts did not stop the elderly of the city and province of Iloilo to exercise their right to vote on the midterm polls.
For instance, a 104-year old grandma from Barangay Cabilauan, New Lucena, Iloilo inspired the voters in the same precinct after she casted her votes while on wheelchair.
Lucila S. Sobremisana, a mother of four and a grandmother of 13 grandchildren took pride in exercising her right to vote.
In a radio interview of a local radio station, Ms. Sobremisana said voting every election gives her happiness.
My children keeps on telling me that I should not vote but I still chose to vote, because it gives me happiness, she said.
Ms. Sobremisana said she will choose leaders who will be contributing for the good of their municipality.
I will not vote for leaders who are corrupt, she stressed.
She also expressed her dismay especially for those who exercised their right to vote.
She also scorned younger voters who do not value the electoral process.
They do not understand the significance of choosing good leaders, she added.
Meanwhile, an 83-year old grandmother, Adelina P. Malaobe from Brgy. Ortiz, City Proper said she never missed to vote every election.
Gapati ko nga mahatagan nila kami pangabuy-an, she said in an interview while on her wheelchair.
Both Malaobe and Sobremisana belong to the over-all 1,525,168 voters from both the city and province of Iloilo.
