An elderly man was killed in a bolo attack by his son-in-law shortly after midnight on June 29 in Barangay Dawis, Dingle, Iloilo.
Police identified the victim as “Roberto,” 65, who was about to go to sleep when the suspect arrived at his home.
The attacker, identified only as “Froilan,” 40, allegedly barged in armed with a bolo and assaulted his wife’s father.
Senior Master Sergeant Leo Ron Anerdis, Dingle police investigator, said the victim sustained hack wounds to his left hand and thigh.
Roberto was rushed to Iloilo Provincial Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Anerdis said the incident stemmed from an earlier quarrel between Froilan and his minor son on Saturday afternoon.
The altercation turned physical, with Froilan suffering a wound on his nose after being punched.
Roberto allegedly intervened in the scuffle, which reportedly angered Froilan.
Although the issue was later settled before the barangay lupon, Froilan allegedly took a bolo and went to Roberto’s house, located next door.
Responding police officers arrested Froilan at the scene.
He is now detained and facing criminal charges.
