Tokyo-bound Ej Obiena is already near his top form after collecting another medal in his second Diamond League meet participation.
After consistently racking medals in his previous pocket tournament stints, Obiena did not let his team down as he prevailed over tough opponents and clinch the bronze medal.
As part of his conditioning and getting back into shape before the grandest sporting event in 2021, Obiena is already getting tons of praise regarding his performances in the recent tournaments he joined.
“Clearly, EJ continues to more than just hold his own against the world’s best,” said Philippine athletics chief Philip Juico.
Previously, Obiena turned heads during the tournament in Czech Republic after outlasting the world top pole-vaulters including Olympic gold medalist Thiago Braz by winning gold.
As the first Filipino to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics, he and his camp are currently working hard to cement not only his name but the country as one of the world’s best.
“The field in the Diamond League in Rome included Swedish-American Armand Duplantis, world record holder; Belgian Ben Broeders, European champion and Renaud Levillanie from France. The field can’t get any much tougher than that,” added Juico.
