Alex Eala squandered her chance to enter the Indian Wells quarterfinals after dropping her Round of 16 matchup against Linda Noskova, 2-6, 0-6, on March 11, 2026, at Indian Wells in California.
The 20-year-old Filipina ace failed to sustain the momentum she built after huge wins over Dayana Yastremska and Coco Gauff, succumbing to a locked-in Noskova, who did not give her any room to breathe from start to finish.
Unlike her previous losses, which almost all reached a so-close-yet-so-far scenario, the showdown against the Czech netter became an unexpected one-sided affair.
Noskova immediately blew the match wide open in the opening set after establishing a double-break lead, 5-2, moving a set away from cruising to a morale-boosting 1-0 lead.
Without any lingering unforced-error issues and with a composed serving performance, Noskova quickly took the first set with a hold, picking Eala apart with her deep bag of spins during their baseline battle.
Noskova proved to be the more efficient baseline hitter than Eala as she took advantage of the Filipina’s sloppy errors, specifically at the end of sets, where either a short ball into the net or a wide return always appeared on the venue’s huge review screen.
Despite Eala amping up the pressure in the second set, Noskova remained calm, sticking to her game plan of playing a variety of shots that kept the Filipina guessing throughout the match.
Eala never regained her toss rhythm in the second set as all of her service games were broken by Noskova. To make matters worse, her signature down-the-line forehand bomb was again nowhere to be found, just like in her Dubai encounter against Gauff.
Noskova capped off her convincing Round of 16 win with 56 total points won, including 26 on the return, seven aces, and five break points.
Eala, on the other hand, struggled to gain any consistent rhythm after tallying only 26 points won while committing three double faults.
On to the next, Alex!
