E.B. Magalona police warn public over online threat

BACOLOD CITY — The E.B. Magalona Municipal Police Station in Negros Occidental has alerted the public about a social media post concerning an alleged firearm-related incident that mentioned “Saravia National High School.”

Based on initial information gathered by authorities, the school mentioned in the post, Saravia National High School, is located in Koronadal City, South Cotabato, and is not E.B. Magalona National High School in Barangay Tabigue, E.B. Magalona, Negros Occidental.

E.B. Magalona was formerly known as Saravia, which may have contributed to confusion over the social media post.

In an advisory released Tuesday night, police advised the public to verify information before sharing or reposting social media content, particularly posts that could cause confusion, alarm, or misinformation involving schools and public safety.

Police said the post is under investigation to establish the facts and circumstances surrounding the matter.

The town police said it remains committed to protecting the community, maintaining public safety, and coordinating with concerned authorities to clarify the situation.

“Let us help prevent misinformation. Verify before you share,” the police said.

The advisory came hours after classes were suspended at a public high school and elementary school in the town because of a separate alleged online threat.

The Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) has heightened security measures, strengthened coordination with school authorities, and ordered a thorough investigation into the matter.

Police are also reviewing possible closed-circuit television footage that could help establish relevant movements or activities connected to the reported threats.
