The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region VI launched the 2025 Consumer Welfare Month (CWM) celebration in October with the theme “Bida ang Konsyumer sa Bagong Pilipinas.”
The regional celebration includes DTI provincial offices in Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental.
CWM is observed every October under Proclamation No. 1098, series of 1997, which reaffirms the government’s commitment to protecting consumer interests.
This year’s theme highlights the essential role of empowered consumers in creating a fair, sustainable, and inclusive marketplace.
As a symbolic start to the month-long celebration, DTI Region VI and its provincial offices recited consumer rights and responsibilities during their September 29 flag ceremony.
The synchronized recitation served as a reminder that consumer empowerment begins with awareness and shared accountability between government and citizens.
CWM activities in Region VI include press conferences, media engagements, and Bagwis Awards to honor establishments that comply with fair trade laws.
Consumers can also expect Diskwento Caravans and in-store sales offering affordable goods across the region.
Educational events such as consumer congresses, quiz bees, and school competitions are also scheduled to enhance public awareness.
Community-based events—including fun runs and installation of information boards—aim to make consumer rights accessible and visible.
“Empowerment translates to a well-informed consumer that decides wisely, chooses well, and that redounds to customer satisfaction,” said OIC-Regional Director Ma. Dinda Tamayo.
DTI emphasizes eight consumer rights: to basic needs, safety, information, choice, representation, redress, consumer education, and a healthy environment.
The agency also reminds the public of five key consumer responsibilities: to be critical and aware, assert their rights, act when necessary, be socially responsible, and protect the environment.
DTI Region VI’s celebration aligns with the national observance of Consumer Welfare Month, reaffirming its advocacy for the protection and empowerment of Filipino consumers.
