The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) launched the Malikhaing Pinoy Creative Expo (MPEx), a five-day national event in Taguig City, as part of its push to position the Philippines as Asia’s premier creative hub by 2030.
Held at SMX Aura in celebration of Philippine Creative Industries Month (PCIM), the MPEx brings together all nine creative domains and 73 sectors for the first time.
These domains include audiovisual media, visual arts, digital interactive media, design, performing arts, publishing, traditional cultural expressions, creative services, and cultural sites.
Trade Secretary Cristina A. Roque led the ceremonial opening, highlighting the expo’s role in recognizing creativity as a major economic driver.
“Under the clear directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., the Department of Trade and Industry is fully committed to harnessing the power of our creative industries. The DTI will continue to provide our artists and creators with the necessary infrastructure and support, like this Malikhaing Pinoy Creative Expo, until Filipino talent gains the global recognition it truly deserves,” Roque said.
The event offers immersive pavilions that showcase Filipino talent through displays of art toys, paintings, sculptures, comics, animation, and publications.
A centerpiece of the program is “Malikhaing Pinoy Chats,” which fosters dialogue between creative professionals, aspiring artists, and government policymakers through interactive talks and presentations.
Also featured is a “Creative Matchmaking for Filipino Games” pitching session, giving indie and student developers a platform to present their work to potential investors.
Dungeon King of Midnight Equinox earned top honors as Best Game Pitch during the session.
Prominent organizations taking part in MPEx include the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), Game Developers Association of the Philippines (GDAP), Design Center of the Philippines, and the Philippine Fashion Coalition.
The Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) and Ayala Museum represent the performing arts and cultural sites domains, respectively.
MPEx is the flagship event of the Malikhaing Pinoy Program, an initiative led by the DTI through the Philippine Creative Industries Development Council (PCIDC) Secretariat to support and elevate Filipino creative industries.
