SIBUNAG, GUIMARAS — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Guimaras reinforced its support for local farmers by conducting a Training on Organic Pest Control Formulation for cacao growers, integrated farm owners, and organic farmers on Sept. 23, 2025, at NJST Fruit Farm in Sibunag.
Seventeen participants attended the training, which equipped them with practical knowledge and skills to formulate safe, affordable, and eco-friendly pest control solutions using locally available organic materials.
Mr. Anthony M. Faulan, Agriculturist I of the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office 6 (DA-RFO 6) Organic Agriculture Program, served as the resource speaker for the event.
Faulan provided in-depth guidance on identifying and managing cacao diseases, formulating organic pesticides, and producing organic fertilizers.
An open forum was held to allow participants to share experiences and clarify concerns about cacao pest and disease management.
The training also included a hands-on demonstration on how to prepare organic pesticide, ensuring that the theoretical knowledge was applied in practice.
DTI said the initiative reflects its continued commitment to empowering farmers and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) by improving technical capacity, boosting productivity, and promoting sustainable agriculture.
The program was held in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture to expand support for farm-based enterprises and strengthen local agricultural practices.
