DTI-Aklan launches Consumer Welfare Month with 469 runners

KALIBO, Aklan — The Department of Trade and Industry-Aklan Provincial Office launched its Consumer Welfare Month 2026 celebration with the Consumer Run 2026 on Oct. 3 in Kalibo, drawing 469 participants from across the province.
DTI-Aklan organized the event in partnership with JJC Aklan, JCI Aklan Kalantiao and other sponsors.
The Consumer Run served as the kickoff activity for DTI-Aklan’s monthlong observance of Consumer Welfare Month under the theme “Safe Products, Confident Consumers.”
The event brought together consumers, government employees, business establishments, students, advocacy groups, running enthusiasts and families to promote consumer awareness, empowerment and healthy living.
“Through activities such as the Consumer Run, we aim to bring consumer welfare closer to the public and strengthen awareness of consumer rights and responsibilities. The overwhelming participation of registered runners also reflects the growing commitment of our community to become more informed and empowered consumers,” says DTI-Aklan OIC Provincial Director Grace M. Benedicto.
DTI-Aklan said the turnout also highlighted cooperation among government agencies, private-sector partners, civil society organizations and consumer advocates in advancing the goals of Consumer Welfare Month.
The agency has lined up additional activities throughout October to promote consumer education, advocacy and public engagement.
The Aklan Consumer Congress 2.0 will be held Friday, Oct. 9, via Zoom.
The 2026 Aklan Consumer Cup Quiz Bee will be held Saturday, Oct. 17, at CityMall Kalibo.
DTI-Aklan said the activities are intended to strengthen consumer protection advocacy through stakeholder engagement and participation from different sectors.
The initiatives also encourage consumers to exercise their rights, make informed choices and help promote a fair and competitive marketplace.
Consumer Welfare Month is observed every October pursuant to Proclamation No. 1098, highlighting the role of consumers in economic development and promoting the rights and welfare of Filipino consumers.
