Drug busts define Razalan’s tenure as Iloilo police chief

Operational accomplishments, particularly those related to illegal drugs, have defined Colonel Bayani Razalan’s two-month stint as chief of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO).

Since assuming his position on April 19, 2024, Razalan has led different IPPO units in 98 anti-narcotics operations, resulting in the confiscation of 2,802.21 grams of shabu with a street value exceeding P19 million.

These operations have also led to the arrest of 101 drug peddlers, 17 of whom are classified as high-value individuals (HVIs).

Razalan, who serves as officer-in-charge, stated that this status has not hindered the unit from making significant strides in enhancing the efficiency, effectiveness, and community relations of the police force in Iloilo province.

Beyond the drug operations, IPPO has also made notable progress in apprehending wanted persons. Records indicate that 214 manhunt operations resulted in the arrest of 216 fugitives, including 46 classified as most wanted persons (MWPs).

The IPPO has also carried out 21 anti-illegal gambling operations, leading to the arrest of 53 individuals and the seizure of P23,200 in bets.

Efforts against loose firearms have been equally productive.

Razalan reported that 30 operations resulted in the arrest of 28 individuals and the confiscation of 27 firearms.

Additionally, the Tokhang Kontra Armas Luthang initiative led to the surrender of 84 unlicensed firearms and the temporary deposition of 15 firearms with expired licenses at police stations for safekeeping.

“The active participation of the Ilonggo community played a crucial role in these endeavors,” Razalan said.

In collaboration with the Provincial Bantay-Dagat Task Force, the IPPO conducted 36 anti-illegal fishing operations, leading to the apprehension of 71 individuals and 40 fishing vessels.

Efforts against illegal quarrying have also been successful. IPPO units, in partnership with the Provincial Task Force Anti-Overloading, executed 64 operations, resulting in the arrest of 68 drivers and the impounding of trucks loaded with sand, gravel, and other quarry materials.

Four operations against illegal logging led to the arrest of six individuals and the confiscation of 374 board feet of lumber valued at P33,696.

Razalan attributed their success to the Ilonggos’ unwavering trust and cooperation. He encouraged the brave Ilonggo cops to remain steadfast in their commitment to justice, service, and integrity.

“These operational successes highlight the trust and cooperation of our community, as well as the unwavering dedication of your Ilonggo cops to ensuring a safer and more secure environment for the residents of Iloilo province. Let us continue working together and achieve even greater successes,” Razalan said.
