Hundreds of high school students in Guimaras are now enjoying a more conducive learning environment with the new facilities delivered by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd).
The DPWH Guimaras District Engineering Office recently completed a PHP15-million, two-story, four-classroom building at Nueva Valencia National High School in Barangay Poblacion, Nueva Valencia.
The building includes four ceiling fans per classroom, two cubicle-type restrooms per floor, a designated restroom for persons with disabilities, and a fire alarm system.
Another PHP15-million, two-story, four-classroom building was also completed at Dr. Catalino Gallego Nava Memorial High School in Barangay Constancia, San Lorenzo.
DPWH Region 6 Director Sanny Boy O. Oropel said the new buildings will help schools accommodate their growing student population.
“Each year, the number of students increases, leading to a shortage of classrooms. These new buildings address that need and provide teachers with a more comfortable environment to nurture students,” Oropel said.
District Engineer Randolfo A. Melosantos added that the facilities will support both academic and social development.
“Schools are second homes for our children. A well-ventilated, conducive space will encourage eager learning and foster friendships and good memories,” Melosantos said.
Built to withstand unfavorable weather conditions, the structures demonstrate the government’s commitment to delivering resilient public infrastructure in support of national development goals. (DPWH)
