The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and local government units (LGUs) in Guimaras have reaffirmed their partnership to implement the Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES), providing summer job opportunities to poor but deserving youth.
The program was launched through a series of orientations held across the province, aimed at preparing SPES beneficiaries for temporary employment and real-world work experience.
The initiative remains a vital platform for equipping students with life skills, professional values, and exposure to public service, while also offering financial assistance to support their education.
Conducted by DOLE Regional Office 6 through its Guimaras Field Office, the orientation encouraged students to stay ambitious, work hard, and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
DOLE Region 6 Director Atty. Sixto T. Rodriguez Jr. said the SPES initiative helps nurture future leaders by giving them early exposure to work and public service.
“We are shaping future leaders to understand the value of hard work, integrity, and public service,” Rodriguez said.
SPES is a national government program that provides short-term employment to students and out-of-school youth, helping them earn income for their education while gaining valuable experience.
The program continues to strengthen Guimaras’ commitment to youth development by bridging the gap between learning and employment.
Through sustained collaboration between DOLE and LGU partners, SPES supports the long-term goal of empowering the youth through education and productive work opportunities.
