DOLE Gives Livelihood Aid to Iloilo PWD

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Regional Office 6 provided livelihood support to Eduardo B. Arnaiz of Brgy. Tigtig, Sta. Barbara, Iloilo, on December 17, 2024.

This aid, a sari-sari store project, came as a meaningful Christmas gift and a symbol of hope for the new year for Arnaiz, who endured 15 surgeries after a 2016 vehicular accident.

Once employed in a surveying firm, Arnaiz’s life changed when a truck hit his vehicle, severely damaging both legs.

Unable to work, he relied on his wife and children for financial support and medical needs for eight years.

DOLE, through its Iloilo Field Office, recognized the need to support persons with disabilities (PWDs) by providing sustainable livelihood projects.

Acting on a recommendation from the Brgy. Tigtig local government unit, DOLE Regional Director Atty. Sixto T. Rodriguez, Jr. instructed the field office to assist Arnaiz.

“Above all, we aim to uphold his dignity, foster a sense of belonging, and empower him by promoting economic independence and improving his quality of life,” Rodriguez emphasized.

He also highlighted DOLE’s commitment to social inclusion, equal employment opportunities, and respect for all individuals.

A grateful Arnaiz expressed his commitment to nurturing the livelihood project.

“Daku nga bulig ini sang gobyerno sa akon, halungan ko ini kag tinguhaan nga padakuon (This is much-needed help from the government, and I will sustain it and make it grow),” he said.

The project not only provides financial assistance but also serves as therapy for the trauma caused by the accident. Arnaiz hopes the project will support his son’s education and fund future surgeries for his legs.
