De La Salle University (DLSU) Green Archers’ frontcourt star Mason Amos might be sidelined for the remainder of the UAAP Season 88 Men’s Basketball elimination round after suffering a torn medial collateral ligament (MCL) in his right knee.
The development was confirmed on Oct. 13, 2025, after Amos underwent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
Final results indicated a Grade 2 MCL tear, and no additional tears were diagnosed in his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) or posterior cruciate ligament (PCL).
Amos went down with the injury at the 7:08 mark of the fourth quarter during the Green Archers’ 78-82 loss to the National University (NU) Bulldogs.
In an unfortunate sequence of events, NU’s Gelo Santiago, who lost his balance after guarding Kean Baclaan at the top of the key, crashed into Amos’ legs.
Split seconds after the collision, Amos was already down on the hardwood, grimacing in pain, while tightly holding his right knee.
Luis Pablo, Baclaan, and the rest of the DLSU medical staff then rushed to Amos, checking on their newly acquired star who is playing his debut season for the Green Archers.
Amos didn’t finish the game and had to leave the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion in a wheelchair, resulting in another loss that slid DLSU down to a disappointing 2-3 start in the UAAP season.
According to multiple reports, Amos heard an immediate pop in his knee, an early indication of a low-grade ligament tear.
The MRI scan verified the Grade 2 MCL tear that would keep Amos out for at least six to eight weeks. The stretch big man’s earliest return would be mid-November, weeks before the start of the Final Four playoffs.
