As one of the highlights in the 2020 Dinagyang Festival, expect the Dinagyang Elite Basketball league to take on Iloilo City by storm.
Founded by sportsmen Von Fernandez and Rodolfo Villaruz, one of the league’s aims is to be the home of young Ilonggo basketball enthusiasts who want to further their career after college.
“Twenty years ago, the system was like this. You work for a certain company, and at the same time you play for them. It’s like creating a bond within your company members, and it is also a way to promote their companies,” EDBL Commissioner and founder Fernandez told Daily Guardian.
As of now, five teams have already committed to join in the DEBL – Uni-wheels, Asialink/E&C Trucking, DPWH 2nd Engineering Unit, TEJ Builders, and Guimaras province.
More teams have yet to confirm their participation until the final submission of lineups on November 15, 2019.
DEBL is supported and will be assisted by the Iloilo City Government/Iloilo City Sports and Development Division.
