The Department of Environment and Natural Resources Region 6 is set to close its Environment Month 2026 celebration with a culmination activity on June 30 at the Passi City Arena in Iloilo.
The event will feature talent, beauty, advocacy, and friendly competition as DENR 6 highlights its commitment to environmental stewardship.
The celebration is part of Philippine Environment Month, which is observed every June under Proclamation No. 237 signed in 1988 to raise public awareness and encourage participation in the protection, enhancement, and development of the environment.
One of the highlights will be Mutya ng Kalikasan, an environment-inspired pageant featuring seven candidates from DENR 6 offices and attached agencies.
The pageant aims to crown an ambassador who will champion DENR 6’s green initiatives and conservation campaign.
The candidates are Kryzelle Anne B. Nicolas of the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office Aklan; Irah Mari D. To-ong of the DENR Regional Office; Mary Maedibelle O. Nique of PENRO Iloilo; Hannah P. Bangcaya of PENRO Antique; Marilyn G. Gonzales of PENRO Guimaras; Maria Erin E. Tajanlangit of the Environmental Management Bureau; and Ma. Jessa Kathryl R. Alar of PENRO Capiz.
DENR 6 employees will also take the stage through the DENR Got Talent competition.
Delegates from different offices will step out of their usual government roles to showcase their performing arts skills and compete for the championship title.
The culmination activity is expected to be attended by DENR 6 officials led by Officer-in-Charge Regional Executive Director Ramar Niel V. Pascua.
Local government officials of Passi City are also expected to attend, underscoring the city’s support for the regional event at the Passi City Arena.
“Hosting activities like this reminds us that our mission to protect and conserve nature can be translated into creative and engaging ways. It allows us to recharge, while reinforcing the truth that our work deeply matters to both our people and the environment” said DENR 6 OIC Regional Executive Director Ramar Niel V. Pascua.
The partnership between DENR 6 and the Passi City local government highlights the shared responsibility of public institutions and local communities in environmental protection.
DENR 6 said the culmination activity serves as a fitting finale to a monthlong observance dedicated to Mother Earth and to the agency personnel behind environmental programs in Western Visayas.
