One of the most highly-anticipated matchups in the ONE flyweight division will no longer happen.
Danny Kingad, one of PH’s Team Lakay mainstays, will not fight Kairat “The Kazakh” Akhmetov after one of his cornermen tested positive for COVID-19.
The December 4 scheduled bout will be re-slated when all is well for both corners after ONE made it clear that there priority is everyone’s safety amid the pandemic.
Tagged to be the battle of the most hard-hitting flyweights in the division, the no. 2 and the no.3 ranked flyweights will be looking to trade blows and setup their matchup in the later parts December or next year in January.
ONE Fighting Championship did not disclose the identity of Kingad’s cornerman who contracted the virus but instead told everyone to stay vigilant and follow the health protocols designated by the medical team.
Meanwhile, the main event clash between light heavyweight kickboxing champion Roman Kryklia and Murat “The Butcher” Aygun will push through.
