Jason Kidd will remain at the helm of the Dallas Mavericks after signing a multi-year contract extension announced on Oct. 16, 2025.
Terms of the deal — including salary, final-year options, and eligibility clauses — were not disclosed.
Kidd, the architect of the Dallas franchise who steered them to an NBA Finals appearance two seasons ago, will formally open his regular-season campaign on Oct. 23 against the San Antonio Spurs.
“J-Kidd’s basketball résumé is one of the best in the game, and through every situation he has proven he’s the right person to lead the Mavericks,” Dallas general manager Nico Harrison said in a statement.
Last season, Kidd and the rest of the Dallas squad experienced a rollercoaster ride when Harrison decided to trade Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Anthony Davis.
Kidd took a moment to revise their offensive system, as most of their sets were run through the Slovenian superstar, who was their primary ballhandler.
When everything seemed to be clicking after the addition of Davis, Dallas’ season officially came to an end when Kyrie Irving suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee.
Not only was Irving ruled out for the rest of the NBA season, but Davis, who had just arrived in Dallas, also sustained a detached retina that kept him out for the remaining games.
Kidd will now have a healthy squad for the upcoming 2025–26 season, as Irving is expected to return after the All-Star break, while Davis is already fully recovered and has suited up for the Mavericks in the ongoing preseason games.
Talent will no longer be an issue for Dallas after they selected NCAA collegiate superstar Cooper Flagg as the No. 1 overall pick, while also having Klay Thompson, D’Angelo Russell, PJ Washington, Dereck Lively, and Daniel Gafford.
“He has a track record of developing some of the best talent in the league, as well as the ability to connect with players to bring out the best version of themselves,” Harrison said of Kidd.
