Creamline seeks third win against winless ZUS Coffee

Creamline aims for a third consecutive victory and a share of the lead when it faces winless ZUS Coffee in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference Siklab Series on today, Oct. 24.
The Cool Smashers and Thunderbelles meet at 6 p.m. at the Playtime FilOil Centre in San Juan City.
Capital1 and PLDT open the women’s doubleheader at 1 p.m. as both teams try to break patterns that have complicated their early campaigns.
Clearskiin seeks its third straight victory against winless VNS in the Spikers’ Turf Invitational Conference match at 3:30 p.m.
Nxled leads the PVL standings with a 3-0 record, while defending champion Creamline is unbeaten in two matches.
The single-round elimination format sends the top four teams to the crossover semifinals.
The top two finishers will carry twice-to-beat advantages, leaving little room for costly defeats in the league’s 10th season.
Creamline returns after an extended break following victories over Akari and Galeries Tower.
The Cool Smashers will rely on their depth, experience, and balanced attack as they try to maintain their unbeaten start.
Jema Galanza, Tots Carlos, Michele Gumabao, Bernadeth Pons, and Alyssa Valdez lead Creamline’s battle-tested lineup.
The Siklab Series uses an all-to-play rule requiring every player on a team’s roster to participate in at least three rallies.
The rule places added importance on Creamline’s bench and the ability of its reserve players to sustain the team’s level during mandatory rotations.
“Syempre, good problem din sa’min ’yung mga national team namin, bumalik na. Kailangan na magtrabaho talaga. ’Yun ’yung blessing sa’min. Kahit good problem, talagang sa practice, napakacompetitive nila kaya medyo minsan lang naman mahirap. Mga six times six days a week, gano’n kahirap, gano’n kadali pala,” said Creamline head coach Sherwin Meneses.
“Let’s see ’yung mga next games namin, kasi ’yun nga ’yung sinabi ko last time, required talaga maglaro lahat. Talagang totally, dapat mag-perform ’yung isang player sa isang team. So hopefully, ’yung mga reserve pa namin, sa next game, makapag-perform din,” he added.
Despite its stronger start, Creamline cannot afford to take ZUS Coffee lightly.
The Thunderbelles lost their first two assignments but showed improvement against Capital1 last Tuesday.
ZUS Coffee forced the Solar Spikers into a fifth set before losing the decider, 8-15.
That performance offered a glimpse of the fight the Thunderbelles can bring against a more established contender.
Zam Nolasco, Jolina dela Cruz, Jovelyn Gonzaga, Fiola Ceballos, Kate Santiago, and Riza Nogales lead ZUS Coffee’s attempt to secure its first victory.
Creamline enters as the slight favorite, but its advantage will depend on execution, defensive discipline, and composure during the closing rallies.
Every set could affect semifinal positioning in a short elimination round where ties may be settled through competition points and set ratios.
Capital1 and PLDT face contrasting but equally pressing concerns in the opening match.
The Solar Spikers have gone the distance in each of their first three assignments.
Capital1 surrendered a 2-0 set lead and suffered a reverse sweep against Choco Mucho on Oct. 10 in Cebu.
The Solar Spikers rebounded by surviving Akari in another five-set match, 28-26, 22-25, 25-15, 23-25, 21-19.
Capital1 then rallied from two one-set deficits to defeat ZUS Coffee, 20-25, 25-17, 22-25, 25-20, 15-8.
The back-to-back five-set victories demonstrated the Solar Spikers’ resilience but also exposed their difficulty in closing matches efficiently.
Bella Belen, Erika Santos, and Vanie Gandler are expected to lead Capital1’s offense.
Pauline Gaston, Cherry Nunag, Shaya Adorador, and Sydney Niegos provide additional support for the Solar Spikers.
Capital1 must sustain its attack and sharpen its finishing to avoid another prolonged match.
PLDT enters under heavier pressure after consecutive straight-set defeats left one of the preseason favorites winless.
Nxled defeated the High Speed Hitters, 25-16, 25-20, 25-18, in their opening assignment.
Akari then swept PLDT, 25-18, 25-19, 25-22, as the High Speed Hitters again struggled to sustain their offense.
Savi Davison managed a combined 15 points in PLDT’s first two matches, scoring 10 against Nxled and five against Akari.
The High Speed Hitters need Davison to rediscover her scoring touch against Capital1.
PLDT will also lean on its imposing frontline of Kim Dy, Alleiah Malaluan, Majoy Baron, Mika Reyes, and Dell Palomata.
The group must disrupt Capital1’s attack and establish a stronger presence at the net if PLDT is to revive its semifinal campaign.
For Capital1, the priority is to prevent another late collapse.
For PLDT, the task is to translate the roster’s experience and potential into its first victory.
