The CPU Golden Lions men are kings of the Mayor Jerry P. Treñas Dinagyang Futsal Invitational Cup.
Taking down all five participating teams in WIT, ISAT-U, Janiuay Defenders Football Club Inc., Jalandoni NHS, and Cabatuan, the Golden Lions notched the highest winning tally and were automatically hailed as the title-holders.
Gaining a much-needed confidence booster after handing ISAT-U a demolition operation, 10-1, the Golden Lions cruised through the rest of their matches including another drubbing win versus Jalandoni, 9-2.
The dominance didn’t stop there after they out-maneuvered the powerhouse Janiuay Defenders squad, 9-3, and seemed to roll into the tournament.
However, both WIT and Cabatuan almost put a scare to CPU’s dominant run as they managed to keep it close with the champs.
Against WIT, the Golden Lions got away with a 7-6 victory that tested their toughness and cohesion as a team.
Their match against Cabatuan ended in cardiac fashion as they managed to climb back from a 5-2 deficit and end the game with a statement win.
CPU was awarded 10,000 pesos cash prize while the 1st runner-up, the Cabatauan team, was awarded 7,000 pesos and 5,000 pesos for WIT as third-place finishers.
