BACOLOD City – A 53-year-old widow in San Enrique town, Negros Occidental will soon have a decent home.
Donesia Inyong, a mother of five, was chosen by personnel of San Enrique Municipal Police Station to be the first recipient of its Pabahay Project in line with the Lingkod Bayanihan Pabahay Program of the Philippine National Police (PNP).
Police Lieutenant Sammy Gasataya, the town’s deputy police chief, said Inyong was recommended by the captain of Barangay Guintorilan as a beneficiary of the project as she has no other means for living and is voluntarily giving her service to the barangay as a tanod.
One of Inyong’s children was a victim of sexual abuse by her “alcoholic” husband, who already passed away due to complications while in jail for the said offense.

Gasataya said Inyong’s old house was made of bamboo and other light materials and had no partitions. Their floor was the soil itself which they covered with cloth.
But with their new house partially made of concrete and light materials, it has two bedrooms, a kitchen, a bathroom, and a living room where they can comfortably live.
Gasataya said the police station personnel contributed funds and helped construct the house which was completed within two months, also through the efforts of other stakeholders and the barangay.
The project can benefit one recipient once a year.
“It’s our way to help our less fortunate individuals amid this pandemic,” he added.
The official turnover of the house to the Inyong family was tentatively set on Nov 26.
Other monetary support coming from private entities were utilized to buy groceries, sacks of rice, and kitchen utensils for the beneficiary.
