BACOLOD City – A police officer was killed after his motorcycle collided with a Canter truck along the national highway of Purok Ipil-ipil, Barangay San Juan, Pontevedra, Negros Occidental early yesterday.
The victim was identified as Patrolman Reden Agus, 31, of Barangay Hilamonan, Kabankalan City. He was one of the augmentation personnel from the Iloilo Provincial Police Office (IPPO) deployed for the just concluded MassKara Festival here.
Police Major Romulo Gepilango, Pontevedra town police chief, said the victim was allegedly speeding on his way home after coming from his duty when he crashed into a truck that was traveling in the opposite lane.
Gepilango said the victim might have avoided a dog, and probably swerved when he lost control of his motorcycle that resulted in the head-on-collision.
The victim was wearing a helmet, but due to the impact, he was declared dead in a hospital, according to Gepilango.
Gepilango said the truck driver and his two companions are placed under police custody, pending a meeting with the victim’s family.
