A policeman was injured after his gun accidentally discharged while conducting a surveillance operation morning of Feb 27, 2022 in San Rafael, Iloilo.
Staff Sergeant Beverly Lorilla, 43, an intelligence operative of San Rafael Police Staff, was hit on the right leg.
Lieutenant Gener Buena, San Rafael police deputy chief, said that Lorilla and his buddy, Staff Sergeant Dante Bañes, proceeded to Barangay Poblacion after receiving reports on the presence of one of the town’s “most wanted persons.”
Buena said Lorilla stepped on an uneven portion of the road and slipped. At that time, his hand was allegedly inside his bag where he kept his firearm.
Buena clarified an earlier report alleging that Lorilla’s issued firearm was tucked in the right side of his cargo shorts when it accidentally fired.
He was rushed to Gov. Niel D. Tupas Sr. District Hospital in Barotac Viejo for treatment.
