The Commission on Elections in Iloilo has declared full readiness for the May 12 midterm elections, with just over two weeks before voters head to the polls.
Provincial Election Supervisor Atty. Reinier Layson said their office is fully coordinated with the Iloilo Police Provincial Office, Iloilo City Police Office, the Philippine Army, and the Department of Education to ensure a smooth and secure election.
“We are now at a crucial time as the elections draw near. So far, we are 100% on track and ready to conduct the May 12 elections,” Layson said during a press conference on Wednesday, April 23.
He said they are awaiting the full delivery of Automated Counting Machines, official ballots, and other election paraphernalia.
Once received, the materials will be distributed to all municipalities and cities across Iloilo.
Final testing and sealing of the machines will take place on May 7, in line with legal requirements to ensure proper calibration and functionality.
Layson said the general rule is to conduct testing and sealing at actual voting centers.
However, for remote or hard-to-reach barangays, the activity will be held at the poblacion instead.
The COMELEC also assured the public that security preparations are in place.
Police personnel will be deployed to maintain peace and order throughout the electoral process.
Layson urged all stakeholders and the public to cooperate and actively participate to ensure the successful conduct of the elections.
