Iloilo City government is currently preparing to vaccinate more than 57,000 minors aged 5 to 11 years old against COVID-19.
This, after the national government through the Inter-Agency Task Force on the Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) gave the go signal to vaccinate 5- to 11-year-olds in the country this February.
According to Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas, they aim to inoculate 57,600 minors in the metro.
“Based on the census of the City Population Office, we are looking at approximately 57,600 minors from 5 to 11 years old who will be vaccinated. We are ready to start the vaccination of 5 to 11 years old once we have the vaccines for them,” Treñas said in a statement.
The mayor said that the city has identified two mega-vaccination sites for the said age group – the Central Philippine University (CPU) covered gym and the Ateneo de Iloilo covered gym.
“We have dedicated two mega-vaccination sites for them. We have also readied the different teams from traffic management, crowd control, data management, medical teams, who will man these mega sites,” he added.
Treñas said that they hope to start the vaccinations in the second week of February once the Pfizer vaccines arrive in the city.
“According to Sec. Galvez, Pfizer vaccines to be used for 5 to 11 years old will arrive on the 2nd week of February. I can’t wait to protect our children from Covid-19. I hope that the parents will cooperate with us.”
Iloilo City government continues to advocate the vaccination of minors against COVID-19.
A total of 46,932 minors aged 12 to 17 years old have already received COVID-19 jabs. (DG)
