Ambition, gratitude, and family took center stage in two distinctly meaningful celebrations—one marking a milestone in Philippine maritime leadership and the other welcoming a new life into the Catholic faith.
For GMM Global Maritime Manila Inc., its 13th anniversary was more than a corporate milestone. It was a reflection of how far Filipino maritime professionals can go when experience, vision, and determination converge.
At the helm of that journey is Capt. Relly Jose Jr., the Ilonggo master mariner whose career began on deck before steadily ascending to the executive suite. Today, the founder and president of GMM Global Maritime Manila Inc. is steering the company toward an even more ambitious horizon through a strategic partnership with a Lithuanian firm—an alliance that places Filipino leadership at the forefront of international ship management.
The development signals a significant evolution for the country’s maritime sector. By 2026, the venture is expected to oversee vessels sailing under the flags of Panama, Liberia, and Portugal, underscoring a shift from Filipinos serving primarily as crew members to becoming decision-makers and managers of global tonnage.
“Thank you to our clients, partners, family, and staff for your full support,” Capt. Jose said during the celebration, acknowledging the people who helped build the company’s success over the past 13 years.
The anniversary gathering also highlighted GMM’s continuing commitment to the welfare and professional growth of Filipino seafarers, whose skills and dedication remain among the most respected in the global shipping industry. For Capt. Jose, the company’s expansion represents not only business growth but also a broader advocacy for strengthening the Philippines’ maritime and shipbuilding capabilities.
While one gathering looked toward new frontiers at sea, another celebrated the beginning of a life’s journey.
Surrounded by family, godparents, and close friends, Willow T. Caram—the beloved second child of Abbie Caram and JM Tiongco-Caram—was formally welcomed into the Christian faith in a joyful baptism celebration that blended tradition, family ties, and heartfelt gratitude.
Following the sacramental rites at Santa Maria Parish Church, guests gathered at Amarillo Restaurant, where warm conversations and shared blessings filled the elegant luncheon reception. The atmosphere reflected the close-knit bonds that have long defined both the Caram and Tiongco families.
Among those sharing in the special occasion were Willow’s grandparents, led by the gracious Cora Buffa, who flew in from the United States for the celebration. Joining her were Dr. Napoleon Tiongco Jr. and Sheilla Golez-Tiongco, together with their children Maria Cecilia, Mary May, and Thirdy Tiongco.
The afternoon unfolded as a heartfelt gathering of generations, with family members and friends coming together to celebrate faith, heritage, and the promise that accompanies every new chapter.
Whether charting international waters or marking a sacred family milestone, both occasions reflected the enduring values that continue to shape Ilonggo success stories—vision, perseverance, faith, and the unwavering support of community.
