Ceres’ Champions League run falls short after bowing down to FC Tokyo

FC Tokyo made sure there will be no upsets this time.

Enjoying the advantages of their home pitch and weather conditions, the home team from Tokyo enjoyed a 2-0 win against the Ceres-Negros FC in the AFC Champions League Qualifiers.

The loss halted Ceres’ historic run in the tournament as they were just one win away from grabbing the tournament seat they dreamed of for years.

Keeping the first half scoreless and close, the busmen were able to manufacture the momentum they needed going into the second as they were able to keep pace with the powerhouse Tokyo squad.

However, three minutes after halftime, Sei Muroya of Tokyo cruised past the Ceres defense and fired a laser that slipped through the hands of Ceres’ goalkeeper.

The onslaught did not stop as Brazilian striker Adailton da Silva would fire a rapid kick from outside the box that broke Ceres’ hearts as the goal was converted in the 89^th minute of the match.

Team captain Stephan Shrock showed heartfelt emotions in the loss as he wasn’t able to lead his team after getting a suspension with two yellow cards thrown at him during their past matches.
