Cebu Pacific has signed a historic purchase agreement with Airbus and Pratt & Whitney for up to 152 A321neo aircraft, marking the largest aircraft acquisition in Philippine aviation history. The deal, valued at approximately $24 billion (PHP 1.4 trillion) based on list prices, underscores the airline’s confidence in the future of air travel and its commitment to operational efficiency and sustainability.
The agreement includes firm orders for up to 102 A321neo aircraft, with the option to purchase an additional 50 A320neo Family aircraft. The aircraft will be powered by Pratt & Whitney’s GTF™ engines, known for their industry-leading fuel efficiency and lower carbon emissions.
“The selection of Airbus and Pratt & Whitney underscores our focus on operational efficiency, sustainability, and innovation, ensuring that we continue to deliver the highest standards of service while significantly reducing our carbon footprint,” said Michael Szucs, CEO of Cebu Pacific. He added that the acquisition reflects the airline’s dedication to expanding air travel accessibility and affordability, supporting the Philippines’ broader economic growth and connectivity.
This purchase positions Cebu Pacific for its next phase of growth as one of the Asia-Pacific region’s leading low-cost carriers. The new A321neo aircraft will bolster Cebu Pacific’s domestic and short-haul international network, which Airbus has supported for over two decades.
Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Airbus executive vice president for commercial aircraft sales, expressed gratitude for Cebu Pacific’s continued confidence. “We’re confident that these additional A321neo aircraft will contribute strongly to the all-Airbus operator’s next phase of expansion,” he said.
Pratt & Whitney’s president of commercial engines, Rick Deurloo, highlighted the growing opportunities in the region. “The GTF engine will enable Cebu Pacific to continue expanding its route offerings while delivering fuel efficiency and sustainability benefits,” Deurloo said.
This deal represents a significant milestone for Cebu Pacific, furthering its commitment to sustainability and supporting its growth as air travel rebounds across the Asia-Pacific region.
