BACOLOD City – The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) has boosted its assets for rescue operations here with the procurement of four vehicles and two safety air cushions.
Dr. Anna Maria Laarni Pornan, CDRRMO head, said that these safety air cushions can be used in emergency situations to rescue people from high buildings and similar structures.
Pornan said that the purchase of these life-saving equipment was based on the advice of Mayor Alfredo “Albee” Benitez, considering that the city has several high-rise buildings.
“Magamit ni siya in case there’s a need to jump from a height para indi mabudlayan ang Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP),” she added.
Pornan said these safety air cushions amounting to less than a million were acquired abroad through a local supplier and have already arrived here.
One of the cushions will be endorsed to the BFP for them to use during fire response, she added.
It is about eight feet tall, Pornan said, adding that they had already tested it last Saturday.
Aside from this, two vehicles for evacuation of elderly people and pregnant women were also procured.
Pornan said these vehicles will enable them to ride easily during emergency situations like flooding.
At least 20 persons can be accommodated as it was customized particularly for the needs of these persons, she added.
Pornan said they are also waiting for the arrival of two utility vans.
She said the fund for these projects was sourced out from the DRRMO budget this year.
The official turnover of these equipment and vehicles is scheduled for December 4 at the Bacolod City Government Center.
