CDEU seizes PHP782,000 in shabu, arrests 2 suspects

BACOLOD CITY — Two men were arrested after authorities seized PHP 782,000 worth of suspected shabu during a buy-bust operation in Barangay 10 on Tuesday.

Arrested were a 46-year-old man known as “Yanyan,” a resident of the same village, and his 21-year-old companion “Mel,” a resident of Barangay 2.

Both suspects were temporarily staying in a boarding house in Barangay 10.

Police Lt. Richard Legada, assistant head of the City Drug Enforcement Unit (CDEU), said Yanyan was previously arrested in 2019 and released in 2023.

He is classified as a high-value individual.

Mel, meanwhile, is considered a street-level individual and was arrested for the first time. He reportedly acted as Yanyan’s “helper” in the alleged drug trade, Legada said.

Recovered from the suspects were 115 grams of suspected shabu.

Yanyan also allegedly yielded a .38-caliber revolver, which he claimed had been pawned to him, according to Legada.

The two suspects were charged Wednesday for violating Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

They are currently detained at Police Station 2.

Yanyan also faces an additional charge for illegal possession of a firearm, Legada added.
