After Filipino pole vaulter EJ Obiena’s success in qualifying for the 2020 Olympics, the nation again rejoiced as Filipino gymnast Carlos Yulo secured his berth in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
The 19-year old gymnast impressed in the 2019 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Stuttgart, Germany, placing 18th out of 160 gymnasts in the men’s individual all-around finals.
During the Men’s individual floor exercise finals, Yulo put on a spectacular showing, ending up in seventh place to garner himself a spot for the Olympics.
Cynthia Carrion, the Philippine Gymnastics chief, said that Yulo performed wonderfully, and very graciously.
“He performed beautifully. The whole place, a crowd of about 30,000, applauded him,” Carrion stated.
