Carlos Alcaraz sets up Wimbledon semifinal clash with Daniil Medvedev

World no. 3 ranked male tennis player Carlos Alcaraz will look to extend his winning streak on Daniil Medvedev in the semifinal stage of the ongoing Wimbledon tournament on July 12, 2024.

Leading their head-to-head matchup with a 4-2 advantage, the Spanish teen sensation will seek to pick up where he left off after dispatching USA’s Tommy Paul in four sets- 5.7, 6.4, 6.2, 6.2- during the quarterfinal round of Wimbledon.

Despite the early setback when he trailed by a set point early in the match, Alcaraz was able to step on the gas pedal in the final three sets to score the impressive reverse sweep.

An early stretch of unforced errors from Alcaraz allowed Paul to pull away midway through the first set and capped it off with a service break point to grab a much-needed 1-0 cushion.

Already familiar with these types of situations, Alcaraz never panicked and let the game come to him by minimizing his poor shot selection and unforced errors.

As a result of a more disciplined approach, Alcaraz took control of the match after leveling the quarterfinal showdown, 1-1.

Alcaraz then just entered beast mode in the final two sets and was unstoppable in piling up the points in their long baseline exchanges.

Despite a tighter defensive game that Paul deployed in hopes of slowing down the rolling Alcaraz, everything just went the Spaniard’s way to officially seal his semifinal spot.

However, standing Alcaraz’s way in his quest for a Wimbledon championship title is a familiar rival from Russia.

Medvedev, the current world no. 5 ranked male player, is coming off an astonishing win against the top-seeded Jannik Sinner.

Medvedev needed five grueling sets to eliminate Sinner- 6.7, 6.4, 7.6, 2.6, 6.3- to arrange the highly-anticipated matchup against Alcaraz.

With both stars coming off momentum-boosting victories, who will gain the edge and earn the first ticket to the Wimbledon men’s singles final round?
