To further enhance their adoption of good agricultural practices on vegetable farming, 25 beneficiaries of the Capiz Community Organic Vegetable (COVeg) Farm from Mambusao and Sigma were provided with agricultural inputs and production guides from the Department of Agriculture Western Visayas on October 22.
The Kalipunan ng Liping Pilipina (KALIPI) Women Federation received 78 packs of assorted PAKBET vegetables and garden tools such as plastic drums, nylon string, seedling trays, polyethylene plastic for mulching, garden hose, spades, spading fork, hoe, garden trowel, bolo, water sprinklers, and wheelbarrows. They are also provided with IEC materials about organic vegetable production as their guide.
COVeg Farm beneficiaries are currently taking up the Organic Vegetable Production National Certificate II course offered by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) wherein DA technical staff served as resource persons in the series of skills and technical training.
The project seeks to ensure food security and promote proper health and nutrition among Capiz households through intensified organic vegetable production.
“Daku guid ang pasalamat namon sa sini nga programa kay makadugang sa amon ihibalo. Bisan sa malip-ot nga panahon, madamo kami natun-an nga makapamaayo pa guid sang amon palangabuhian,” said Norma Gaspe, Mambusao KALIPI president.
As a joint venture of DA, TESDA, and Capiz provincial government, the COVeg Farm project targets to establish one demonstration farm on organic vegetable production in every municipality in the province. (A.M.P. Susbilla/DA-RAFIS6)
