ROXAS CITY, Capiz – The province of Capiz has 14 cases of the Omicron variant of COVID-19.
The cases were detected among the samples sent by the Provincial Health Office (PHO) to the University of the Philippines-Philippine Genome Center for Whole Genome Sequencing.
According to Department of Health-Capiz spokesperson Jeoffrey Espiritu, 7 Omicron cases are in Jamindan, 3 in Roxas City, 2 in Mambusao and one each in Ivisan and Pontevedra. All of them have recovered.
He confirmed that the cases were local because they had no history of travel outside the province.
The more transmissible Omicron variant is now the leading cause of case surges around the world.
