A still unidentified man was found in the Iloilo River Esplanade at Barangay Inday, City Proper, Iloilo City, on the afternoon of June 28.
As of Sunday afternoon, the man remains unidentified.
Captain Roque Gimeno III of Iloilo City Police Station 1 debunked earlier reports claiming the victim had been identified.
A fisherman allegedly discovered the body, which was then brought to Esplanade 1 by a coast guard auxiliary.
The victim, estimated to be around 55 years old, was wearing only a pair of shorts. No wallet or identification documents were found on him, nor was he sporting any tattoos.
Initial SOCO reports indicated no hematoma or wounds on the body.
“The possibility is that he drowned, and his body drifted to the area. He could have been dead for at least 12 hours when his body was found,” Gimeno said.
Gimeno added that the man could have been drunk and accidentally slipped.
Police are coordinating with neighboring stations to check for any missing person reports in their jurisdictions.
