Body found floating in Dumangas river

ILOILO CITY — The body of an unidentified man was found floating in a river in Sitio Calubihan, Barangay Bantud Fabrica, Dumangas, Iloilo, early Tuesday afternoon, July 29, police said.

A 20-year-old motorist discovered the body at about 1:07 p.m.

Alias John, a resident of Barangay Rosario, Dumangas, told police he was on his way to Iloilo City when he noticed what appeared to be a body floating near the riverbank.

He immediately reported the incident to the duty sentinel of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 6 Technical Support Company stationed in Barangay Bantud Fabrica.

Police Executive Master Sgt. Kim John Banzon, an investigator with the Dumangas Municipal Police Station, said the victim’s face was already bloated when the body was recovered.

Banzon said the victim, believed to be a man in his 40s, was found floating face down and was wearing only boxer briefs.

Police have yet to establish the victim’s identity and the circumstances surrounding his death.

Meanwhile, a family from Dingle has contacted police to determine whether the body is that of their missing relative.

According to police, the family’s relative has been missing for four days.

The family is expected to view the remains on Friday for possible identification.
