Blu Girls rout Peru for fifth in Lima
LIMA, Peru — The Philippine Blu Girls closed their campaign in the 2026 WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup Lima Stage with a dominant 13-0 run-rule victory over host Peru on Saturday to secure fifth place.
The Philippines erupted for all 13 of its runs in the opening inning before completing the mercy-rule win after four innings.
The Blu Girls sent 17 batters to the plate during the explosive first inning and collected 10 hits while overwhelming the hosts from the outset.
The Philippines finished with 11 hits and recorded another shutout to end its World Cup campaign on a high note.
Charlotte Sales and Skylenne Eleazar led the Philippine offense in hits.
Sydney Vitangcol, Angelu Gabriel, Francesca Altomonte and Eleazar each scored two runs.
Royevel Palma earned her first victory of the tournament after allowing only two hits and one walk over four innings.
Palma also struck out two batters while preserving the shutout.
The victory marked the Philippines’ second run-rule win over Peru in the tournament.
The Blu Girls opened the competition with an 8-0 victory over the host nation during the group stage.
The Philippines also produced one of the tournament’s biggest upsets by rallying to defeat world No. 3 Puerto Rico, 5-4.
Although the Blu Girls did not advance to the playoff round, Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines President Jean Henri Lhuillier praised the team’s performance throughout the tournament.
“Congratulations, Blu Girls! From the unforgettable comeback against World No. 3 Puerto Rico to the run-ahead win over host Peru, your incredible performance on the diamond gave softball fans a World Cup run to remember,” said Lhuillier, who also serves as president and chief executive officer of Cebuana Lhuillier.
“You represented Philippine softball with pride, and once again made the entire nation proud,” he added.
The Philippines finished the Lima Stage with a 3-3 win-loss record.
The Blu Girls’ three victories came against Peru twice and Puerto Rico.
The WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup uses a two-stage format in which the top teams from each group advance to the Finals, while the remaining teams play classification matches to determine their final standings.
Japan and Puerto Rico advanced to the Lima Stage championship game.
Great Britain and Venezuela will compete for third place.
The fifth-place finish capped another competitive international campaign for the Blu Girls as they continued to build on their standing in the global women’s softball scene through victories over higher-ranked opponents and strong performances against quality international competition.
