BACOLOD City – The Metro Bacolod District Jail – Male Dormitory Annex (MBDJ-MDA) in Barangay Handumanan here turned over a newly-built house to the family of a person deprived of liberty (PDL) last Friday.
Jail Chief Supt. Simeon Dolojo Jr., newly installed director of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP)-6, led the ceremonial turnover of the house to Mrs. Susana Paguntalan, mother of the PDL recipient, who is residing at Purok Kalubihan, Barangay Vista Alegre here.
Present at the event were Jail Supt. Abner Zamora, MBDJ-MDA warden, Jail Senior Supt. Marie Rose Laguyo, Negros Occidental jail administrator, and Barangay Vista Alegre Captain Jose Maria Leandro Norberto De Leon.
Dubbed “Tulong Mo, Tahanan Ko”, the program is an exemplary project launched under the visionary program “My Jail, My Home” with the aim of helping unfortunate PDLs have a proper and secure home.
The construction of the house was materialized through the collaboration of the MBDJ-MDA and other stakeholders who provided support to carry out the said project.
In his message, Dolojo commended Zamora for realizing the project.
He said that it will have a positive impact not only on the family of the beneficiary but also on the public, as they will recognize the Jail Bureau’s contribution to the community as part of the Bureau’s mantra, “Changing Lives, Building a Safer Nation.”
“Ikaduha na ini. Indi kita mag untat. Tani damu pa mabuligan sini. A very noble purpose in life that will really bring us to progress and development,” Dolojo said.
According to Zamora, the first recipient of the said program was a PDL from Barangay Handumanan who was already released from jail.
The jail conducts screening on PDLs based on their participation in activities, background, and willingness to change, in order for them to avail of the housing project.
