BACOLOD CITY – The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology–Negros Island Region (BJMP-NIR) has cautioned the public against fraudulent recruitment schemes involving monetary transactions.
The advisory followed reports of unauthorized recruitment assistance allegedly offered by former jail officer Val Hubert V. Llera.
The bureau clarified that Llera has already been dismissed from the BJMP and is no longer authorized to transact on its behalf, particularly regarding recruitment or application processing.
“We inform the public to exercise caution and refrain from engaging in any unauthorized transactions, particularly those related to the processing of height and age waivers,” the BJMP said in a statement.
Jail Chief Inspector Juniven Rey Umadhay, BJMP-NIR spokesperson, said that while no cases have been reported in the region, the advisory was issued to alert Negrense applicants and prevent them from becoming victims of the scam.
Umadhay noted that similar complaints had previously been reported in BJMP-7 (Central Visayas) and Mindanao.
The BJMP-NIR stressed that no payments are required at any stage of the recruitment process.
Applicants and victims of fraudulent schemes are encouraged to report incidents and file formal complaints at the nearest BJMP office.
Meanwhile, Umadhay said the bureau is actively recruiting more health professionals and educators, with a focus on the rehabilitation, education, and well-being of persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) in jails.
He clarified, however, that all eligible applicants, regardless of profession, are welcome to apply.
