BJMP finds nuisance contraband in Roxas City jail

ROXAS CITY, Capiz — Several nuisance contraband items were found during a surprise inspection of a Bureau of Jail Management and Penology facility conducted by BJMP Regional Office VI on Tuesday morning, Sept. 29, 2026.
Led by Regional Director Jail Chief Supt. Elena B. Rocamora, in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Regional Office VI, authorities conducted a surprise joint greyhound operation at the Roxas City Jail-Female Dormitory.
The operation was part of BJMP’s enhanced security measures in jail facilities through intelligence-led operations aimed at preventing the entry of prohibited items.
The recovered nuisance contraband was immediately secured by authorities for proper documentation, disposition and other procedures under existing rules and regulations.
Nuisance contraband refers to items that are not necessarily illegal outside a correctional facility but are prohibited inside jails or prisons because they can threaten safety, security or order.
BJMP Regional Office VI said it continues to conduct intelligence-driven operations and strengthen interagency collaboration with law enforcement partners to protect persons deprived of liberty and jail personnel.
Rocamora, who assumed leadership of BJMP Region VI in 2026, has emphasized strict adherence to jail security protocols and a zero-tolerance policy against contraband in detention facilities.
