BIR shuts two Capiz businesses over taxes

ROXAS CITY, Capiz — Two establishments in Capiz were closed Tuesday as part of the Bureau of Internal Revenue’s nationwide Oplan Kandado campaign against tax law violations.

The BIR Revenue District Office No. 72-Capiz, led by Revenue District Officer Marichu Gloria Espinosa, closed one establishment in Ivisan and another in Dumalag for alleged underdeclaration of sales, or improper reporting of total sales to the BIR.

Espinosa said the operation was meant to remind taxpayers and entrepreneurs of the importance of proper tax compliance.

Under Oplan Kandado, formerly referred to as Oplan Lockdown, a business may be temporarily closed if found to have violated tax law provisions, including underdeclaration of sales, failure to register, and other tax compliance violations.

A business may resume operations once the owner settles the corresponding taxes and completes the necessary requirements.

Espinosa reminded taxpayers and business owners in Capiz to honestly declare their income and comply with all tax requirements to avoid hefty penalties, including the closure of their establishments.
