BIR expands partnership with private sector for better taxpayer services

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has strengthened its collaboration with the country’s top business organizations by welcoming new members to its Multi-Sectoral Group, as part of its ongoing commitment to improve taxpayer services.

During a memorandum of agreement (MOA) signing event on September 10, 2024, BIR Commissioner Romeo D. Lumagui Jr. underscored the importance of the private sector’s role in enhancing tax policies and regulations.

“The private sector is, and always will be, our partner in nation-building,” Lumagui said.

“Regular discourse and exchange of ideas between the BIR and representatives from the private sector will create a more stable taxation system in the Philippines.”

The Multi-Sectoral Group provides a platform for the private sector to voice concerns and suggestions regarding the BIR’s policies.

Nine returning members were present at the MOA signing, including the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Tax Management Association of the Philippines, Management Association of the Philippines, Financial Executives Institute of the Philippines, Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Association of Certified Public Accountants in Public Practice, Association of CPAs in Commerce and Industry, Philippine Exporters Confederation, Inc., and Joint Foreign Chambers of the Philippines.

In addition, three new organizations have joined the group: the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Inc., Makati Business Club, and the Alliance of Tech Innovators for the Nation.

The expanded partnership is seen as a strategic move to facilitate better communication between the BIR and businesses, paving the way for smoother tax administration and reforms.

Lumagui reiterated the BIR’s commitment to continuous dialogue with the private sector to ensure a fair and efficient taxation system.
