The Creamline Cool Smashers wasted no time picking up more talent and firepower for their upcoming Premier Volleyball League (PVL) conference campaign after acquiring the services of beach volleyball superstar Bernadeth Pons.
Creamline’s latest roster addition was confirmed last June 2, 2023, after the Cool Smashers hosted a welcome lunch for Pons.
Present during the Cool Smashers’ activity were team captain Alyssa Valdez and the veteran duo of Tots Carlos and Michele Gumabao.
Despite playing the past years in a beach volleyball setup, Pons started her career indoors and was a member of the strong Petron team that contended for multiple titles in the last conferences of the Philippine Superliga (PSL).
Four years ago, Pons decided to skip joining the indoor volleyball scene after putting all of her work under the sun together with her partner Sisi Rondina.
The tandem became the permanent team A of the Philippines in several national and international beach volleyball tournaments and exceeded the expectations of the majority when they were able to pull off convincing results in the last two to three years.
However, it is now time for Pons to redirect her focus to the country’s only professional volleyball league and help the Cool Smashers continue their successful postseason run in the PVL.
With Pons now in the lineup, head coach Sherwin Meneses will have a deeper offensive rotation together with Jema Galanza, Ced Domingo, Valdez, Carlos, and Gumabao.
The Cool Smashers are coming off a hard-earned All-Filipino Conference championship title several months ago and will have the chance to win two-straight golden trophies if they clinch the upcoming PVL Invitational Conference.
