Travelers in Metro Manila now have a greener commuting option with the launch of the Philippines’ first all-electric taxi fleet, operated by Green and Smart Mobility Philippines Inc. (Green GSM Philippines) and powered by VinFast electric vehicles.
These electric taxis offer passengers a smoother, quieter, and cleaner ride, signaling a new chapter in urban transportation.
BDO Unibank, Inc. (BDO) plays a central role in enabling this transition, providing comprehensive financial support to VinFast Auto Philippines Inc. (VinFast Philippines), Green GSM Philippines, and V-Green Charging Station Development Philippines Inc. (V-Green).
Through its end-to-end banking solutions—including cash management, consumer banking, and insurance—BDO supports the scale-up of electric vehicle (EV) operations, expansion of ride-hailing services, and rollout of charging infrastructure nationwide.
“At VinFast, we view sustainable transportation as more than just a technological shift—it’s a commitment to future generations,” said Duong Thi Thu Trang, Deputy CEO of Sales and Marketing at VinFast.
“Partnering with BDO, a trusted and forward-thinking financial institution, allows us to empower Filipinos with greater access to EVs while helping shape a smarter, greener, and more livable urban future,” she added.
VinFast Philippines, a subsidiary of Vietnam’s Vingroup JSC, aims to accelerate EV adoption in the country through this partnership.
Meanwhile, V-Green has already received approvals to build EV charging stations at four SM Supermalls, with plans for further expansion across the BDO–SM ecosystem.
“Charging infrastructure is essential for sustainable EV growth,” said Nguyen Thanh Duong, CEO of V-Green.
“By partnering with BDO, we can fast-track the deployment of convenient and reliable charging solutions that make EV use more practical and scalable across the Philippines,” he added.
In June 2025, Green GSM Philippines completed its integration with BDO’s digital banking platform to streamline operations, payments, and driver onboarding.
“Our mission is to deliver cleaner, safer, and more sustainable public transport,” said Dao Quy Phi, CEO of Green GSM Philippines.
“Our partnership with BDO strengthens our driver-partner support and enables sustainable fleet expansion,” he continued.
“It also lays the foundation to help the Philippines in reducing emissions and modernizing urban transportation,” he added.
The rollout of all-electric taxis and supporting infrastructure aligns with the country’s broader climate goals and ongoing efforts to modernize mobility solutions in congested urban areas.
