A barangay official was arrested during a gun raid in Sara, Iloilo early morning on May 26.
Police identified the suspect as alias Nelson, a village councilman of Barangay Lanciola, Sara.
The raid was carried out by joint elements of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office–Provincial Intelligence Unit (IPPO-PIU), the IPPO Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit, the Sara Municipal Police Station, and the Iloilo Maritime Police Station.
Authorities served Search Warrant No. 2025-018 issued by Judge Oscar Leo A. Billena of Regional Trial Court Branch 70 in Barotac Viejo, Iloilo.
The operation was conducted for alleged violations of Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
Seized from the suspect’s residence were one .38-caliber Smith & Wesson revolver (serial number 708894) with four bullets, an M16 magazine loaded with 24 rounds, and two short M16 magazines containing a total of 32 rounds.
Major Rolando Araño, IPPO spokesperson, said the raid was prompted by multiple complaints against the suspect.
He was reportedly accused of brandishing a gun and causing public alarm while intoxicated.
The suspect is currently in police custody and will face charges for violating RA 10591.
